C64emu releases
.: Another 6581 filter algo change :.
- With the latest filter update, some tunes sound better, while others sound worse, but I found the reason why, so now almost everything sounds a little better than with any of the previous versions
.: Minor changes :.
- Console mode was activated in the previous version due to the upcoming integration of the VICE testbench, but since it is not ready yet and the emulator's dual-window mode is annoying, I have temporarily disabled it until I figure out how to implement it

I REALLY LOVE this over VICE, dude! Only thing thus far I miss is that I can chose a controller/USB joystick! Hoping you implement that in a future release.
ReplyDeleteC64emu will automatically use the primary joystick/joypad as the joystick in port 2. (Using X+Y axis for movement, not the hat, and all buttons for fire.) Go into the menu's and swap joystick ports (Alt+J) and it'll become the joystick in port 1. ie: whichever port works with the numeric keypad, or cursor keys if enabled, will work with your main joystick/joypad at the same time.
DeleteSo far I've been using it with my home-made joystick that's a generic USB-Controller board from AliExpress, and some original Atari-port joysticks though a Retronic Design USB adapter. Must try the X-Box controller.

Quick update: Works with a genuine XBox 360 controller too. 😊
Delete(Analogue joystick for movement.)
Yes, joystick control is still in its primitive stages 🫣
DeleteI plan to make it fully configurable so that you can play with digital directions as well, not just with analog sticks, but right now, as I prepare to release the SIDemu board, non-SID-related developments have been pushed into the background a bit, but I will soon get around to implementing more usable joystick control 🤞
And thank you, Nathan, for your quick assistance again! That's very kind of you! And also thank you for sharing your experiences 🫡
Aw man! I take a week editing my video, and suddenly I'm two versions of the emulator behind! 😄 haha.
ReplyDeleteThis time I did Night Mission Pinball. Sorry, it's the version of the emulator with the bad mipmap, and maybe not the best SID filter from the update notes. But I'd already captured the video a second time — at 50% speed, so it took twice as long 😊 — so I was getting kinda bored with the game already.
Here it is. Night Mission Pinball, an excellent pinball game in glorious green-screen!

Now I'm thinking what I'd like to play that makes good use of the SID filter. 🤔 It's probably gonna have some Galway music. Oh! Or Trailblazer or POD by Shawn Southern. Trailblazer has a strong high-pass filter on the music, and POD has a strong low-pass filter. I think I might do POD, coz I'm really out of practice with Trailblazer, and it takes a while to memorize all those tracks.
Now I'll get onto trying the latest version. Cheers! 🍺
And here's another one 🤭😁
DeleteOn the subject of pinball, you could make a video of Mechanicus, for example, with R4AR settings. That would show off what SIDemu can do pretty well, but I'd also like to see a Terra Cresta and/or Lightforce gameplay video with R3 settings (with the main title music, of course) 🤗

DeleteCool! New version downloaded. Thanks. 👍
DeleteI think I was working off the Feb 27 release when I recorded POD, specifically because this game makes use of the filter:

I was kinda thinking Terra Cresta would be another good one to try. Lightforce also has some gorgeous music to it. I'll see which one I can play more competently, to get it recorded. Mechanicus isn't one I'd ever tried before. I'll see if I'm any good at it.. 😊
